Writing Challenge, Day 13: My Favorite Artist

My favorite artist is Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter. Don’t roll your eyes at my use of her full name. Yes I saw that, now stop. Check your bias for a second and let me explain.

I have been a Beyoncé fan since I was following my older cousins around in the late ‘90s , listening to the same music they did, which included stanning over Destiny’s Child. So, I’ve literally been a fan almost my entire life lol. As such, I’ve watched Beyoncé rise from being a teenager in a girl group to a grown woman and insanely successful solo artist. As she’s evolved in terms of music quality, lyricism, her persona, and womanhood, I think Beyoncé has grown to become a great example of the success that can result from having a strong work ethic and commitment to one’s craft. Her talent has been enhanced over time, but we’ve also witnessed a metamorphosis in her business acumen, specifically through her choice to start her own entertainment company and take the management of her brand into her own hands.

Boasting countless anthems celebrating female empowerment, sexuality, and now also Blackness, Beyoncé has continued to be an artist worth admiring in my eyes. Her accolades are astounding and she has extended her reach to become one of the most globally recognizable and successful artists in the industry. Beyoncé has been breaking records and solidifying her place in history for as long as many of us have been alive, and is now arguably the best entertainer in our generation. She does all this, while still remaining humble in her interactions with others. Despite the crazy amount of money and fame she’s gained, Beyoncé has continued to be an avid philanthropist, dedicated mother, wife, daughter, friend and overall regular girl from Houston, TX the whole way.

So, be annoyed if you want to, but you can’t deny that sis is out here killing it. My favorite artist is Beyoncé. I ain’t sorry.
